Changes to visa-free rules: From 2024, entry to the EU will become chargeable

From next year, citizens of countries that have visa-free regime with the EU will be required to have travel authorization and pay a mandatory entry fee under the ETIAS program.

🛂 These changes will be implemented to control visa-exempt travelers, ensuring greater security in EU countries and addressing the issue of illegal migration.

👉 How to obtain ETIAS?

✔️ Complete the application form on the ETIAS website or mobile application (the form will become available once the program is active).

✔️ Possess a biometric passport (holders of other types of passports will need to apply for a visa). If a citizen obtains a new passport, they will need to obtain a new ETIAS travel authorization.

✔️ Pay a fee of 7 euros.

The authorization must be obtained no later than 96 hours before the planned border crossing to the EU, regardless of the mode of transportation.

With a valid ETIAS travel authorization, one can enter the territory of European countries multiple times for short stays—usually up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

❗️The authorization will be valid for 3 years. So, by paying a one-time fee of 7 euros, you will have a three-year authorization to enter the EU.

📌 ETIAS authorization is not required for citizens who already hold a valid Schengen visa or for foreigners with long-term visas issued by one of the EU member states.
